Between December 22 and 23, the 14th Congress of the Suzhou Association of Science and Technology was held at the Great Hall of the People in Suzhou. Representatives of scientific and technological workers from all walks of life in the city gathered together to attend the grand meeting.
This science-and-technology event is held once every five years. The delegates jointly sought scientific and technological work and the development plan of the Association for Science and Technology, and contributed wisdom and strength to Suzhou’s full promotion of the construction of industrial innovation clusters.
In the past seven years, Suzhou’s comprehensive strength in scientific and technological innovation has continued to increase, ranking first in the Jiangsu province for 12 consecutive years. A large number of innovation centers, such as the National New Generation Artificial Intelligence Innovation and Development Pilot Zone, have sprung up; Suzhou ranked fifth among national innovative cities in 2021 and is the only prefecture-level city in the top five. Behind major breakthroughs, it also embodies the sweat and painstaking efforts of the vast number of scientific and technological workers in Suzhou to innovate independently and strive to tackle tough problems, and engraves the growth footprints of the vast number of cadres and workers of the city’s science and technology association system to forge ahead and pursue their dreams.

This year, as a representative of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, I walked into the Great Hall of the People and listened to General Secretary Xi Jinping’s report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. I deeply feel the high importance that the Party Central Committee attaches to scientific and technological innovation, the respect and love for talents, and the trust and expectation that young people have. In particular, the report points out that guided by national strategic needs, we should gather our strength to carry out innovative and leading scientific and technological breakthroughs, and resolutely win the battle for key core technologies. This has greatly encouraged me, turning “spirit” into even more “strength”.
I am engaged in tumor immunity-related research, and from the development of the past 5 years and the past 10 years, Suzhou has made very solid work in both the basic scientific research of source innovation and the formation of biomedical industrial clusters. We also look forward to seeing that through this series of optimization and adjustment, Suzhou’s biomedical industry can achieve new breakthroughs.
I am very excited to participate in the five-year grand meeting of the Association for Science and Technology. I am very grateful for the trust the organization has placed in me, which is a recognition of my previous work and an expectation for my future work. I hope that in the future, not only in teaching and research work, but also in science popularization and publicity work, my team and I can make new efforts.

This conference of the Association for Science and Technology coincides with the convening of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. The conference report urges people to forge ahead, encourages the majority of scientific and technological workers to work together, and strive harder to continuously polish the “Suzhou Scientist Day” brand and further enhance the five capabilities of “talent centripetal force, collaborative innovation, science popularization soft power, think tank service, and science association organizational power”. Let the talents of the whole country realize the implication of “everyone in Suzhou must have something to do”, and build Suzhou into a talent highland in the Yangtze River Delta. I am very pleased to have this opportunity to participate in this conference, which is a rare event for our scientific research workers. This time, I brought the antigen product produced by the company, which has passed the European Union CE certification standard in Germany. In order to meet the needs of Suzhou citizens, the company has specially transferred its export products back to Suzhou. Currently, the company’s production line is fully operational, and overtime work is required to ensure market supply.
HymonBio has been committed to the development of early cancer gene screening products for tumors. Currently, the colorectal cancer gene testing has entered the clinical trial stage, and it is expected to be launched next year. We hope to provide more and better genetic testing products to everyone in the future, contributing to the health of the people. At the same time, I will also do a good job in promoting science, so that everyone will no longer fear diseases and have a new understanding of biological medicine.
Cheng Bo, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Chairman of the Suzhou Association for Science and Technology, presided over the closing ceremony. The meeting elected a new leadership organization of the Suzhou Association for Science and Technology, with Lu Jianmei, a professor and doctoral supervisor of Suzhou University, and a foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Engineering, elected as the chairman of the 14th Committee of the Suzhou Association for Science and Technology. Cheng Bo, Gu Zhihua, Ni Zhiqiang, and Pang Zhen were full-time vice chairmen, and Ma Yuting, Liu Sheng, Min Dayong, Zhang Tingxiu, Xiang Chunlei, Jiang Hongwei, Xu Ke, Tang Yuguo, Jing Zhenqiang, and Wen Yifang were part-time vice chairmen.
“I am very grateful to the Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government for their high attention to the work of the Association for Science and Technology. This conference has made clear arrangements for the organizational structure and key work of the Association, especially for the future scientific and technological innovation work, which has provided very good guidance.” Lu Jianmei said that in the future, under the leadership of the Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government, we will fully rely on the solid foundation laid by previous teams. Relying closely on the collective wisdom of the vast number of scientific and technological workers in the city, we will lead the new committee to fully perform its duties and responsibilities, and achieve a win-win future through reform and innovation.
